on this at the moment. he says what happened in benghazi is a premedicated attack. it has nothing to do with the video. and there's always a video, there's always a cartoons there's always a teddy bear, there's always some prenext for the mob to go crazy. what is important is for free nations to say we around going to get into that game with you. and it's absolutely disgraceful the sight you showed, the people taking them in for questioning. >> this is a point we are going to get into. why, on the anniversary of 9/11, why did we learn that valerie jarret has more security as she takes her vacation in martha's vineyard, than on 9/11 at our embassies in cairo and libya? >> there's a credibility issue here. and it's easy to look tough by sending some guy to a suburban apartment in los angeles and sending a big posses of sheriffs to arrest him. where is the toughness when the al-qaeda flag is flying offer your embassy? >> what is he going to do? president obama, our embassies have been breached, our flag taken down and burned for whole world to see. what is he going to do about it? 1. >> he and mrs. clint
trouble controlling violence in benghazi before four americans were killed at the u.s. consulate. >> did the administration have any sort of heads up that violence was increasing specifically in libya before the attack? >> i'm not aware of any, ed. there is a matter under investigation. what precipitated the attack, motivation of the attackers were, what role the video played in that. >> intelligence sources have told fox catherine herridge that before the attack, the cia had assessed eastern libya with deteriorating. today carney seemed to back pedal ever so slightly from ambassador susan rice's sunday declaration that the violence in libya was spontaneous reaction to that controversy anti-muslim film. >> in fact, this was not a preplanned, premeditated attack. >> while carney did stand behind the video being a key factor, he opened the door to other possibilities being uncovered in the f.b.i. investigation. >> the cause and motivation behind them will be decided by the investigation. >> there are other factors involved in the violence that ensued? >> new questions as well about the fac
was there was no significant demonstration going on outside that consulate area in benghazi. so she is making it sound if the extremists who were heavily armed came in and joined a ongoing big demonstration that got whipped into a frenzy and led to this attack. >> right. well, obviously there's still a lot of facts to be learned. we don't know everything yet but there is one group of people who are not at all confused by what happened and those are the people who attacked consulate and killed four americans. they know what they planned and what they did. even worse than that, as tragic as this is, is the signal that it is sending to al qaeda and terrorists and extremists all around the region, which is, that we did not have adequate security for our ambassador to libya. we didn't have adequate security for our embassy in cairo on september the 11th. and that official americans and private americans are vulnerable. tunisia is a good example. when they couldn't really take over the embassy they storm ad school across the street. they couldn't get the hard target. so they went after a soft target. i thin
the security situation in eastern libya was deteriorating based on attacks june, specifically in benghazi and the briefing carney said he was not aware of any specific warning. >>shepard: tell us about your information, catherine, regarding possible terror camps near our embassy in benghazi. >>reporter: well, the libyan president blamed foreign spiders, code for islamists saying suspects from mali and algeria are among the 50 arrests. fox is told that there are at least two suspects training camps in libya. one is 75 miles from the scene of muammar qaddafi's death and the second is near the generation border a lawless area where al qaeda and their north african affiliate has been raising money through kidnapping. the catches have been under the microscope when a motorcade was attacked by a rocket propelled grenade, the ambassador survived but two in the security team were injured. a congressional source said drone assets capable of surveillance and much more have new been "re-positioned in response to that consulate attack." >>shepard: thank you, catherine, from washington, dc. >> many of
there was no significant or sizable demonstration when the attacks unfolded sometime after 9:35 p.m. in benghazi on 9/11. in simple terms this was not an ongoing demonstration that spiraled out of control. quote, there was no protests and attacks were not spontaneous the intelligence source said. the libyan attack was planned and had nothing to do with the movie. according to fox news's official a u.s. official did not dispute the account and talked about at small demonstration this consulate as how many separated the attack in the even u.s. official could not say adding it part of the investigation. quote, while everything is still under investigation, the available information suggests that the protests in cairo inspired what the attackers decided to do later that night in benghazi. right now this points to a plan that was hatched opportunisticly on that day. while the libyan government as well was senior members of congress briefed on the attack call it terrorism and they say it was premeditated the state department spokeswoman would still not go that far. >> again i'm not going to put labels on t
the segment, showing about mitt rim's comments on the attacks in benghazi and cairo were terrible. i think it's a wash. >> but it's moved beyond mitt romney's statements none attack. it's gone in part to the administration's hard-to-believe story that all this violence was sparked by the movie and the movie alone and now i think the issues are what really happened in benghazi. we still don't know exactly what happened. was it preplanned? and then the spread to the other countries. >> the longer this goes on, the more it becomes about the president's responsibility and the less it becomes about mitt romney's initial reaction to it. >> but his foreign policy has not been a predominant issue in a lot of these races and with the economy as sluggish as it is, you wouldn't think this would trump everything. >> world events have a way of disrupting elections at times and no one saw this becoming as a predominant issue in the campaign. >> obama had a lot of strong points on foreign policy, he had a pretty nice list of thing and pretty close with afghanistan but the arab spring was always that was som
in benghazi. now al-qaeda affiliate in north africa is calling for more murders. in a statement posted on the web, terrorists urge preliminaries to kill or expel representatives of the u.s. government as retaliation for that anti-islam video that went viral last week. u.s. officials have been giving conflicting information, really, about whether that video may have played a role in the murders. ed henry is live at the white house. i guess jay carney spoke out about this today. >> he did. 'cause there has been conflicting information as you suggest. some administration officials have said look, this was not a preplanned, premeditated attack. that's the opposite, as you know, as to what the libyan president and others have suggested. u.s. intelligence sources have told fox that the u.s. government was warned by libyan officials that violence was increasing in benghazi and that the libyan government may not be able to control it. so i pressed jay carney on whether we got some kind of a warning. take a listen. >> the administration have any sort of heads up that violence was increasing spe
the appropriate steps. here's his answer. you're not trying to say there was enough security in benghazi, are you? >> i am simply saying this is a matter under investigation. it is an absolute tragedy that we lost four americans in benghazi, including our ambassador, including security personnel. and there's an active investigation underway into what happened and why and what the motivations were. and driven by the absolute commitment that this president made to finding who was responsible and holding them, keeping them -- holding them accountable and bringing them to justice. and i think that's very important. >> reporter: as for the contradiction between ambassador susan rice saying on five sunday news programs that, in fact, they believe these were not preplanned attacks and that the spark for all this was that anti-muslim video, that has been contradicted as you noted by the libyan president, other intelligence sources. jay carney today left the door open to the idea that the administration's story on this can change was he said -- because he said this investigation is still ongoing, but he s
in benghazi as a reaction to what had transpired some hours earlier in cairo. >> spontaneously. that is not what intelligence agencies are saying. even the president of libya sees it differently. specific date for this so-called demonstration. i think we have no -- this leaves us with no doubt that this is preplanned. >> all right. the date, of course, september 11th. once again the obama administration seems befuddled by muslim violence which is growing. afghanistan now in peril. iran spitting in the eye of america and al qaeda reconstituting in places like yemen. again, the soft power approach hasn't worked. in fact, mr. obama's greatest success is are the grown missile attacks. they ever demonstration of hard power. vital issue number three. gas prices through the roof and the nation has no coherent energy policy. if israel decides to attack iran, gas prices might go to 7 bucks a gallon. mr. obama is well intention ited in wanting alternative fuels. his intention to the fossil fuel industry has put working americans in a very bad place. wait until you see your heating bill.
no protests outside the u.s. consulate in benghazi. and then the attack began. and because of the precision of attack, the direct fire, the indirect fire in the preplanning that could have taken place for that, it's very possible that there was some either inside help, or some type of surveillance that had gone on at the compound. in fact, the libyan president over the weekend said he felt there was preplanning. and premeditation in to this, especially considering not only did these militants attack the compound, they also then attacked a safe house nearby. that the u.s. consulate officials could have gone to for help. the protests around the middle east continue. in pakistan, we saw violence today. in fact, the embassy in islamabad tetch rarely suspended the operation ahead of the protest because they knew it would become violent. tear gas flying. pakistani police brought out the big water cannons to push protesters back from climbing in to the u.s. embassy compound. in lebanon, the leader of the hezbollah militant group took to the streets in a rare public appearance to call for continuee
